"Nancy and sleepy friend"
23 July - Scratchboard underway. My subject is one of the cutest little minuture pigs - these were just so delightful little characters. Wish all little pigs had a good life!
is a recent works (completed 14.6.15). I met him in 2014, he was enjoying a little freedom and running free in his paddock - a little muddy, long coat and showing off his beautiful personality. Pastel on paper, 15x29.5cms $600. This is a NZ thoroughbred, and his future and treatment is questionable and I would like to think that he was safe, but doubt that. His paddock mate was a young stallion of only 8 months, taken from his mother and expected to run for the rest of his life, he as just beautiful too, wish they have a good life - and pray they do.
Ode to Cecil
"Ode to Cecil". This is my second painting of this magnificent Lion who resides in the Sydney Zoo. My earlier version was Watercolour and Pen, however, after the senseless slaying of Cecil by a US dentist, it need to remember him, it pulled heart strings of all decent people when he was shot, and I wished to ensure that his memory stays alive. Scratchboard and Ink for his eyes and a little on his face and ear. I feel very passionate about these beautiful cats, in fact all animals, and wish that all mankind was as caring and acted as their protector rather than their foe.
Cecil hung in the AGRA Galleries during the Australian Art Excellence Awards from the 11 to the 25th November 2015 in Camberwell Victoria and also at St Kevin's Art Show in 2016 and in the Phillip Island Easter Show in 2017.
Hissy - Koala
“Hissy – Koala” (left), is a little fellow I met at Healesville Sanctuary. The photograph I took just after the horrific 2009 bush fires in Victoria; in this compound there were quite a few injured Koalas’, but this one appeared in good condition and adjusting to his new life with vigor, he was quite feisty and lively, his left paw was very tender, but it didn’t stop him climbing up and down, he is actually coming down when I took this photograph. I loved the movement and his actions. Ampersand Scratchboard and ink completed in Oct 2015.
Hissy was selected to be shown in the 2017 International Society of Scratchboard Artists Exhibition in MacLaren Vale, South Australia in February - March 2017, and on his return to Melbourne he was entered into the Phillip Island Easter Show and won Best Drawing and was sold.
