My art, my way
My subjects are just that, they are from my visits and supported by my own photography and from my work in the field “en plein air”. My drawings and paintings are from freehand so at times a little quirky!
My love is of all animals, wild or domestic. Wherever nature lives either in the wilderness or an environment created by man – the subject will attract me, no matter what it is. There is so much beauty everywhere, the land, the sea the mountains and the sky. The trees, sun soaked fields of corn or wheat, the sunlight that dances on the water, walking around a disused factory site - seeing nature returning - marvelous shapes for painting, old barns - it goes on and on!
When drawing or painting animals, places, people and creatures, it's all about their uniqueness – that captures the special personality, the look and it’s their space! Take horses for example, they have 17 different facial gestures - so its important to work with those gestures to ensure their mood is caught!. I have five beautiful horses - they are all so different - no face is the same!
I need to meet the creature, respect their presence and space. When I return to my studio to finish a piece, I can still feel their presence, smell, nervousness, environment, telling breeze, dancing light, or a storm brewing, the heat or the coolness of the day, and the curiosity the creature has of its surroundings.
I am mindful of what drew me to that animal, person or place, capturing the special memories. I paint what I see and like, not for anything else, my depiction of the subject will not be perfect, it is always best to leave something out - keep the imagination in play for the viewer.
I have photography to record the exact image.
My Mission as an artist is to tell a story!
I endeavor to express though my paintings, my feelings and be true to my subjects as I remember them.
As an artist, my paintings reflect what I see; the environment, the mood of the day, the animals encountered or the people met, their look or expression and the colours of the environment, these all pave the way for my story.
My photography captures the stunning places, the changes & sounds of the weather, the animals and people depict the moments!
