Introducing Jan Lowe. The "Art of Scratchboard" has been with Jan for many years. Later in life the opportunity came for her to work as a professional artist. As this is one of her favourite mediums and is one she practices in. She works as a Professional Artist and Tutor in Scratchboard Art. The art brings a passion and reality awareness of the world around her, integrity and high energy - that is what drives her, and she loves them both. She relays this passion to her students - to encourage them to be original, respect the subject and own their artworks with pride and enjoy the magic that follows.
Method: Her art is what she experienced – the place the event or the encounter. Photography has always been one of her passions, however her art is where the real passion begins, and each stroke is of respect and feelings for that subject. When working in the studio she uses several of her photographs taken in the field to remember the impact that subject had on her - on site in front of the scene or animal has the true character - a photograph is just a flat image - and the colours unless taken in "raw" will not be true – it is a guide and a record.
She has been very lucky to be noticed by judges and received many awards. One of her major passions is bringing the endangered species to notice, and these animals come to life in her scratchboards. Her saying is "My art, my way", visitors are asked to enjoy it for what it is; you are welcome to offer positive comment.
